Your phone is the most powerful tracking device you own. These steps shut down the biggest leaks in about an hour.
1. Rein in location services
Set apps to 'While Using' or 'Never.' Turn off system location history and 'significant locations.'
2. Kill your advertising ID
Reset and then disable the mobile advertising identifier that ties your activity to a profile.
3. Audit app permissions
Revoke microphone, camera, contacts, and location from any app that doesn't truly need them.
4. Block trackers at the network level
Use a privacy DNS or tracker-blocking app so ads and beacons can't phone home.
5. Switch your browser and search
Move to a privacy browser and a non-tracking search engine.
6. Go dark when it matters
Airplane mode helps, but only a Faraday bag guarantees no cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth signal leaves the device.
